Lawn treatments through the year in Dumfries
The lawn equivalent of the programme I use on a bowling green: the right feed at the right time, moss and weeds dealt with before they take hold, and the grass hardened off for the winter rather than left soft going into the frost. A typical year is five visits: an early spring feed, a moss treatment, a summer feed with weed control where it is needed, an autumn feed, and an autumn and winter moss kill with iron. Scarifying and aeration are added when the lawn needs them, not by default. For an average garden close to Dumfries the five visits come to around £200 a year. The smallest lawns I treat are £120 a year and the largest around £500, and a lawn further out of town costs a little more for the travel.
Lawn renovation and moss removal
For a lawn that has gone thin, mossy, bumpy or waterlogged. Scarifying to take the moss and thatch out, spiking or hollow coring to get air into the soil, re-seeding, and top dressing to true up the surface. Where water lies, we look at the drainage first, because feeding a wet lawn is money wasted. If you are thinking about a lawn irrigation system I can advise on what would suit the garden, though we do not install them. The before and after above is a renovation, not a new lawn.
Lawn turfing and new lawns
Ground preparation is nine tenths of a new lawn, and it is the part most people rush. We level, drain where needed, prepare a proper seedbed and then either lay turf or sow seed, depending on the time of year and how quickly you need to use it. Artificial grass in Dumfries: measure, supply and fit
I am a grass man, but there are gardens where real grass will never thrive: heavy shade, a wet corner, a small garden with two dogs and three children. For those we measure up, supply a good quality artificial turf and lay it on a proper compacted base so it drains and stays flat. Lawn mowing, grass cutting and gardening
I have looked after regular lawn mowing rounds in and around Dumfries for many years and still do, but my books for new fortnightly or monthly visits are close to full. Ask, and I will tell you straight whether I can fit you in; if not, I can usually suggest a reliable local gardener. Hedge cutting I pass to a trusted colleague in the same way. I do not do lawn mower repair or servicing myself, but I know most of the small engine mechanics in Dumfries and Galloway and will point you to the nearest one. If you are elsewhere in Scotland, most towns have a lawnmower repair and blade sharpening service if you look for one.
